My previous job in New Zealand was for Inro Technologies, a high-tech startup company that uses robotics
to automate industrial vehicles. Born out of the University of
Auckland's Spark
40K Challenge, it started after
gaining inspiration from the DARPA Grand Challenge
in the United
States. We have adapted the technology that we developed for the race and
applied it to industrial vehicles, effectively creating autonomous
vehicles that drive themselves. With the mechanical aspects of the
vehicle, the electronic control of the robot, and the computer software
as the robot brain, it's a great example of different areas
of engineering combining to produce innovation. Please see the Inro website for more
information.
